Description
The name for this photo came to me as I was standing there taking the photo! Mangrove trees grow up and out like most trees, but there root system is amazing to look at. As the tree trunk gets taller it will send root stems down. Some times the stems will divide too! All of this serves two purposes! One is to get nutrients from the water and sand. And two is to anchor the tree so that it dose not wash away. Coastal storms can be very hard on normal trees like oaks and pines. They would just be washed away by a hurricane. But not mangroves. They are natural protection from erosion, and in Florida it is against the law to cut them down!!! So as the roots reach for the earth the trunk and breaches reach for the sky!! I hope you enjoy this photo I call "Reaching For Earth And Sky"!!! This photo was shot on Emerson Point Preserve, in Florida.

An example of how you draw the viewer in and grab ahold so he/she cannot immediately escape until some understanding of the image is had.
